The Overview
Jason Reynolds is a New York Times bestselling author whose work redefines what storytelling means for a new generation. He needed a digital presence that reflected his voice: bold, dynamic, and unapologetically creative. Our challenge was to design a site that could serve as both a portfolio of his literary work and a platform for engaging with his global audience.
The Challenge
Jason’s previous online presence didn’t match the weight of his influence. With dozens of books, speaking engagements, and media appearances, visitors often struggled to navigate his work or find the information they needed. The challenge was to build a site that felt as layered and powerful as his writing, while also offering clarity and ease for fans, educators, and media alike.
The Research & Discovery
We started by identifying Jason’s core audiences and what they needed most:
Readers – wanted quick access to his books, events, and news.
Educators & Librarians – needed resources, author information, and book lists for teaching.
Media & Partners – required a polished, accessible press kit and speaking details.
Our research revealed a shared priority: organization and storytelling working together. The site needed to embody Jason’s voice while giving audiences an intuitive path to what they came for.
The Strategy & Approach
We approached the design with two goals:
Create an immersive brand experience that reflects Jason’s artistry.
Streamline navigation so users can easily explore his body of work and upcoming projects.
We sketched flows for different user journeys, then built hi-fidelity wireframes to test layout and hierarchy:
A dynamic homepage that blends narrative and navigation.
A books library that allows quick exploration by title.
A media and events hub tailored to educators, librarians, and press.
The final site became a bold digital extension of Jason’s storytelling:
Typography and imagery evoke the energy and rhythm of his voice.
Books are showcased visually, making discovery engaging and intuitive.
Events and media pages provide clarity for educators and press.
Responsive design ensures accessibility for Jason’s broad, global audience.
The Impact
The site transformed Jason’s online presence into an immersive experience that matches his creative identity. Fans can now explore his catalog seamlessly, while educators and media have direct access to the resources they need. The design supports his dual role as an author and cultural figure, amplifying his voice online.
Reflection
This project underscored the importance of designing with audience diversity in mind. By balancing artistry with clarity, we have built a platform that not only honors Jason’s work but also enhances his reach and accessibility across diverse communities.
