The Overview
Sweet Blackberry is a nonprofit founded by actor and author Karyn Parsons. The organization creates films and educational content highlighting untold stories of Black achievement. Their existing site held years of powerful work but lacked a clear structure, intuitive navigation, and modern storytelling elements. They came to Golden Launch Creative ready to refine their digital presence while keeping a strong foundation.
The goal was to modernize the experience, strengthen SEO, and make it easier for educators, parents, and supporters to explore resources, donate, and engage with the mission.
The Challenge
Sweet Blackberry needed more than a cosmetic refresh. Their site had strong content but limited discoverability, unclear pathways, outdated architecture, and accessibility gaps. Key pages weren’t optimized for search, and users struggled to move between stories, films, donation opportunities, and educational tools.
They needed a streamlined system that honored their legacy while meeting modern standards for nonprofit storytelling.
What We Delivered
A strategic, SEO-driven redesign via Squarespace. Clean navigation, stronger messaging, and a more intentional flow shaped around how educators and supporters actually browse.
Key DeliverablesUpdated homepage structure for stronger narrative flow
SEO optimization across high-priority pages
New content layouts for films, educational resources, and founder information
Improved donation pathway
Visual refinements for clarity and brand consistency
Accessibility updates including alt-text and improved contrast
Mobile-first adjustments
our goals
We started with a full audit of the existing site to understand content hierarchy, friction points, and SEO gaps.
Once priorities were set, we restructured the homepage into a clear narrative arc: mission, films, impact, and ways to support. We reworked copy for clarity and search relevance, implemented fresh meta titles and descriptions, and refined layouts so the brand’s storytelling could shine.
Throughout the process, we preserved the warmth and historical depth that define Sweet Blackberry while making the experience easier to navigate for educators and families.
Final Homepage
The original homepage website lacked clear hierarchy and forced users to scroll without direction. The redesigned version leads with mission clarity, strong visuals, and strategic CTAs guiding users to films, resources, and the donate page.
The Results
Following the website refresh and SEO optimization, Sweet Blackberry saw a clear increase in site activity and donation performance year over year. Improvements to site structure, content clarity, and search visibility contributed to stronger engagement and more intentional user paths.
Performance Highlights
1.3K unique visitors in the first two months
2.6K pageviews, indicating deeper content exploration
Direct traffic accounted for over 60% of visits, signaling stronger brand recognition and return visitors
Search traffic increased, validating SEO and content restructuring efforts
Donation & Revenue Impact
The refreshed site supported a significant increase in donations, with direct traffic driving the majority of revenue. Users arriving through direct and referral channels showed stronger intent and higher conversion value, confirming the effectiveness of clearer navigation, improved storytelling, and streamlined donation pathways.
While Sweet Blackberry’s mission extends beyond transactional outcomes, the redesigned experience made it easier for supporters to take action and contribute financially.
